An embedded HSE culture
Our concern for health, safety and the environment is part of a wider corporate responsibility within all GDF SUEZ companies for sustainable development in terms of Health, Safety, the Environment, the welfare and development of employees and regard for the communities in which we operate.
HSE Philosophy
Our overriding philosophy is that all incidents are preventable, that each company has proactive plans and systems in place for risk assessment, safety awareness and compliance, and a continuous plan for improvement, as well as training programs, right type of equipment and protective gear and HSE planning and leadership in all phases of work. Our principal duty is to protect our employees and those affected by our operations.
HSE Responsibility
While HSE awareness and attitude is for everyone, the responsibility for HSE within a company lies with its management. For this reason there are specific training programs at management level to ensure complete understanding, commitment and support for all HSE activities. In addition to the responsibility for the HSE of our own employees we include our clients' personnel, temporary workers and sub-contractors in our HSE systems and organisation.
HSE Action
We have a "0" tolerance policy. Each company within the Operational Unit has an HSE Manager supported by a team of qualified, experienced HSE professionals who reinforce the company's embedded safety culture with continuous programs of risk identification and training. We realise that managing HSE is our license to work: companies and personnel who do not meet the standards set by the oil and gas industry, represent an unacceptable risk factor that will not be allowed in this industry.
HSE Achievements
We have achieved a far lower incidence of accidents across the entire Operational Unit than the industry average with a Total Recordable Injury Frequency (TRIF) of 1.17 and a Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF) of 0.38. For instance, Fabricom in Norway has just achieved 3 years and over 6 million man-hours without LTI and, in the UK, we received the RoSPA Order of Distinction which accredits our commitment to HSE over the last 16 years.
